RajjeTV CEO Fiyaz to be sentenced on August 3

CEO of RajjeTV, Hussain Fiyaz Moosa is due to be sentenced coming Thursday, August 3.

The sentencing date was announced during the hearing in the case held this Monday.

Fiyaz has been charged with obstruction for allegedly hitting a police officer in the chest on November 2, 2015 as officers were working on diffusing an IED found in Male’ City.

The hearing held this Monday saw both sides presenting their summary statements.

The State prosecution said testimony of two police officers present at the scene proved Fiyaz had hit Corporal Mohamed Shaheen in the chest, and that witness testimony also proved Fiyaz had refused to leave the area cordoned off by the police.

Fiyaz’s attorney said his client denied the charge, and that it was completely baseless.

He also said that the witness testimonies were conflicting.

The attorney said Corporal Shaheen had been unable to describe how Fiyaz allegedly hit him when he took the stand.

RajjeTV reporters Mohamed Wisam and Leevan Ali Nasir have both been fined over the same incident.
