Conflict between inmates and guards at Maafushi Prison

A conflict between inmates and guards at the Maafushi Prison in Kaafu atoll has left some injured.

Maldives Correctional Service has confirmed the conflict unit for dangerous criminals, to Sun Media,

Sources say that a guard injured in the incident was brought to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in Malé for further treatment and an inmate sustained a head injury.

Information Officer of the Correctional Service, Ahmed Lugman told Sun Media that the incident occurred when the guards went into the unit after some inmates broke the lights and attempted to get electricity from them.

Lugman said that the situation has now been controlled and no inmates sustained any injury that requires medical attention.
