Young man stabbed near Supreme Court

A young man was stabbed near Supreme Court in Male’ City this Tuesday afternoon.

Photos have emerged in social media of the young man clutching his back where he was stabbed in the attack, and being escorted by two police officers.

Police media official said the stabbing took place near Supreme Court at approximately 1:45 pm. He said the man was taken to Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital for treatment by the police.

The stabbing took place amid tightened security by the police in the area this Tuesday.

The police had cordoned off the area and tightened security due to trials of high-level politicians at Criminal Court – which included the trial of Leader of Jumhoory Party Qasim Ibrahim and remand hearing of Thulusdhoo MP Mohamed Waheed Ibrahim (Wadde).

No arrests have been made in the case yet.
