Azleen: Do not answer call of those who seek to instigate violence

Minister of Home Affairs, Azleen Ahmed has appealed to the general public not to answer the call of individuals who conspire to harm Maldivian people, the police and their families.

Minister Azleen made the appeal during the function held at Iskandhar Koshi this Sunday morning to mark Police Memorial Day.

He warned the people of Maldives of conspiracies by foreigners and a group of Maldivians to tarnish the peace and sovereignty of the country.

Azleen said that those who harm police officers for material gain or in the name of democracy should be meted out the strictest punishment allowed by law.

He said he was sad to note a number of Maldivians had fallen prey to such conspiracies dressed in the name of “democracy”, and said no two Muslims should violate the rights of one another or threaten or harm one another.

“What’s sad is that people in responsible positions who later resigned or stepped down for various reasons harassing the police, sending people to attack the police, and speaking to TV channels and other mediums to defame the police institution. This is sad,” said Azleen.

Addressing the police, Azleen said police officers did not work for salaries, and that they were ready to protect the country and its people from conspiracies – both foreign and local.

He praised officers who lost their lives in the line of duty, and prayed Allah bless them and reward them with Paradise.
