The MP for Dhiggaru constituency, Ahmed Faaris Maumoon, remanded until the end of his trial, has been transferred to Maafushi Prison.
Information Officer of the Maldives Correctional Service, Ahmed Lugman has confirmed the transfer to Sun Media today that MP Faaris is in their custody at the prison.
The son of the former President, Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, MP Faaris, was arrested under a court order on 17 February at his residence in Mahchangolhi and was taken to Dhoonidhoo. Authorities conducted a search of his apartment and took a pen drive.
The following day, Police came back to the house with a second court order for the CCTV footage of the house.
At the latest press conference by the police, Spokesperson, Ahmed Shifan said that they have received evidence against MP Faaris for bribing other members of the parliament.
The court passed a ruling to keep Faaris in custody until the end of the trial before the investigation was completed.
