Supreme Court judge Abdulla Areef has been appointed to Judicial Service Commission (JSC), replacing Supreme Court judge Ali Hameed who had been serving as President of JSC.
President’s Office confirmed the appointment in a tweet made by the Spokesperson at President’s Office, Ibrahim Muaz Ali this Monday morning.

JSC states the term of a commission member as five years. It was recently shortened by Supreme Court to two years.
It has been over two years since Judge Ali Hameed had been serving as a member of JSC.
Abdulla Areef had been serving as acting JSC member in place of Ali Hameed ever since he was admitted to Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital last Thursday, July 6.
