4 more expats arrested in Ihavandhoo murder case

Authorities have arrested four more expatriate workers in connection with the murder of a Maldivian man – whose body was found at an ice plant in H. A. Ihavandhoo last Friday evening.

The murder victim has been identified as Ismail Umar, 54, from Lh. Hinnavaru. He worked as a mechanic at the Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) ice plant in Ihavandhoo.

Authorities first arrested the expatriate worker who worked with Ismail Umar at the ice plant. He was arrested while in hiding at H. Dh. Kulhudhuffushi.

“Sun” has been informed that the four more expatriate workers arrested all do odd jobs at Ihavandhoo.

Four Maldivians and one expatriate work at the MIFCO ice plant. Both Ismail Umar and the first expatriate arrested in the case both sleep in the same quarters.

Ismail Umar’s body showed signs of severe injuries, particularly his throat.
