Dinghy capsized - Police officer missing

A dinghy out fishing from Addu City has capsized and one of the three people on board, a police officer, has gone missing.

The officer missing is Corporal Mohamed Sumaid, Hithadhoo. The two others on board swam to safety.

Information Officer of MNDF, Captain Ali Azim said that the the MNDF Southern Command has been mobilized after a dinghy out fishing capsized in the sea of Seenu atoll Gan.

And they are looking for a 27-year-old man, last seen wearing a black, long-sleeve jersey and a tracksuit.

Captain Azim said that the dinghy travelling with three people was reported capsized around 8:30 p.m. tonight. He said that two of the people on board swam to Shangri La resort for safety.

MNDF said that the Coastguard vessels, Hakuraa and Harbor Craft 108 is at the scene searching for the missing man.

Sources say that Sumaid was out fishing as today is his birthday.
