Complaints filed against 6 reporters for slandering First Lady

President’s Office has filed complaints with Maldives Media Council (MMC) against six RajjeTV reporters who allegedly defamed First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim.

A member of MMC reported to “Sun” that the complaints against the six reporters was filed by Chief Communications Officer at President’s Office, and that the council has started looking into the complaints.

The MMC member reported the complaints were filed regarding certain articles written on RajjeTV’s online website, RajjeMV.

Individual complaints regarding the articles have been filed against Ali Yoosuf, Ahmed Muhsin, Mohamed Fazeen, Azmoon Ahmed, Mohamed Wisam and Abdulla Naseer Ibrahim.

Azmoon and Fazeen both have two complaints against them.

The complaint was that the articles defamed First Lady Fathimathi Ibrahim.

The MMC member reported each of the reporters have been given seven days to respond to the allegations.

RajjeTV reporters have been penalized with fines over a number of defamation claims. All the fines have now been paid by the station.
