Special website launched to report human trafficking

Maldives Police Service has launched a special website to report human trafficking and inaugurated a system to investigate the crimes reported through the website.

At a special ceremony held at the Iskandharu Building today, the newly established Trafficking in Persons Case Management System was launched by the Deputy Commissioner of Police,Ahmed Saeed.

The Chief of Mission for Sri Lanka and Maldives appointed by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Giuseppe Crocetti and Program Officer at IOM, Iham Shareef also attended the ceremony today.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Commissioner Saeed said that the system inaugurated today is the fruit of the labor put in by the Human Trafficking Unit of the Maldives Police Service and all the relevant authorities in the past month.

And with the system would help all stakeholders to work together and make the reporting of the crime much easier.

The IOM Mission Chief, Giuseppe Crocetti also spoke at the ceremony today. In his speech, he noted that efforts against human trafficking by the Maldivian government and the police service.

And so the new law against human trafficking, the anti-human trafficking plan the implementation of international agreements on human trafficking was highlighted in the Mission Chief’s speech.

He said that even though victims of human trafficking cannot report the crimes against them due to threat and fear, the system inaugurated today will allow such cases to be easily reported.
