Ministry of Economic Development has ordered shop owners to stop overpricing mineral water.
Ministry of Economic Development issued a statement this Wednesday saying that the office had been receiving numerous complaints over some shop owners overpricing mineral water sold from their shops.
“The ministry instructs such parties against overpricing mineral water,” said the ministry in its statement, noting that mineral water was something used by a large percentage of the general
population as drinking water.
Hot weather leading to increase in water usage as well as interruption in supply of Life mineral water has resulted in a shortage of mineral water in the market.
Island Beverages Maldives Private Limited – which produces Taza mineral water – announced on May 8 that it has increased its production to compensate for the shortage.
Some of the shops in Male’ City have limited sale of mineral water over the shortage by refusing to sell mineral water to customers in cases.
