Statistics show only 17 percent exercised the right to vote from Male’ City during the Local Council Election 2017 held last Saturday.
Officials has released results from all but one ballot box kept in Male’ City.
Statistics so far shows only 7,850 people out of 46,302 registered voters from Male’ City exercised their right to vote during the election.
The only result pending from Male’ City is from the Central Maafannu district ballot box.
Results so far show opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has come out the winner in all districts of Male’ City except for the North Henveyru district.
The lowest voter turnout was from the North Maafannu district; only 298 out of 3,667 registered voters to the district’s ballot box cast their vote.
LCE 2017 saw a low overall voter turnout rate throughout the country.
The election has held last Saturday after four postponements.
