Police begins special operation with more officers on the streets

With no arrests having been made in the murder of the social media activist and blogger, Yamin Rasheed, Maldives Police Service has brought out more officers to the street and started a special operation on the roads where people will be questioned and checked.

In a tweet sent out by the police tonight, they said that officers in the regular uniform will be carrying out the operation where they will be patrolling different roads and intersections.

Police have started extra patrols after social media activist and blogger, Yamin Rasheed, 29, was found murdered in the pre-dawn hours of this Sunday with multiple stab wounds consistent with a sharp object.

And while the Serious and Organized Crime Department of the police has started investigation, they have requested support and assistance from the public. And so the police have asked that anyone with any information about the incident to come forward and not to spread false information.

Sources tell Sun Media that the extra officers on patrol in the special operation are officers in training.
