Powerhouse closed for investigation, unsure when power will be restored

Fenaka Corporation has said that the police have closed off the Gaafu Dhaalu Fiyori powerhouse to investigate the explosion and so they are unsure when power can be restored to the island.

Chairman of the Fenaka Corporation, Iqbal Adam told Sun Media today that they are working to restore power at the earliest and thank the support from the people on their effort.

Deputy Director of Fenaka Corporation, Idris Abdulla also spoke with Sun Media saying that they have to leave the “scene” untouched until the police finishes their investigation.

He said that a forensic team of the police is on their way to the island and once they are done, a technical team from Fenaka will start their work inside the powerhouse.

Idris said that Fenaka is working hard to restore power to the island and resolve the problems facing the people of the island. And so they are working to transport a generator from Gaafu Alifu Devvadhoo.

Fiyori lost power after the battery set connected to the 250 kW generator exploded. An employee at the powerhouse, Nazid Abdulla passed away following the burns sustained in the incident.

Chairman of Fenaka Corporation said that the company is discussing on providing a financial aid to the family of the victim.
