Maldives Police Service has cancelled the passport of former Maldivian President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s personal assistant and head of his security detail – Ahmed Sofwan, and asked for assistance from Interpol in the search.
Sofwan was also a member of Progressive Party of Maldives’s council before Maumoon was ousted from the party.
Police released his name and photo on April 10.
The authority said it was trying to locate Sofwan for investigation into a case, but released no details.
Police announced via its official Twitter account this Wednesday that Sofwan’s passport has now been cancelled through Immigration due to lack of cooperation from him, and that the authority has reached out to Interpol for assistance.
Sofwan is reportedly currently in Bangalore, India with Maumoon.
