Inmate scalded with hot water, incident under investigation

Police reports the authority is investigating an incident where an inmate at Maafushi Prison was severely burned when he was thrown hot water at by some other inmates.

Police media official confirmed that such an incident is under investigation.

He said the incident was being investigated by Maafushi Police Station, but released no details.

“Such an incident was reported on Tuesday, last week. The incident is under investigation by Maafushi Police Station,” said the police media official.

“Sun” was informed the inmate was attacked by his cellmates. But “Sun” has been unable to confirm this as the media official for Maldives Correctional Service is out of reach.

“Sun” has also received information from a credible source that the inmate injured in the incident is currently receiving treatment at Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Male’ City.

IGMH has refused to make any official comment as it is there policy to keep information regarding patients under the care of MCS who are treated at the hospital confidential.
