Four former Presidents of the Maldives Media Councils (MMC) have signed an agreement to work within the law to guarantee the full extent of the rights of free media and freedom of expression.
The four former Presidents of MMC, are the latest President of MMC, Mohamed Asif (Mondhu), Mohamed Nafiz, Abdulla Muza Yoosuf and Husham Mohamed.
But the former MMC President and the Managing Director of the State Media, Ibrahim Khaleel did not sign the agreement.
The agreement says that they would work grant the full potential of journalistic freedom and freedom of information and freedom of expression.
The latest President of MMC, Mohamed Asif told Sun Media tonight that the purpose of the agreement to find a solution to the challenges being faced by the media stations tonight.
The agreement among the former MMC presidents have come at a time where TV Stations and journalists are facing major fines under the new anti-defamation law.
