Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, Riko Moosa Manik has said that the MDP Chairperson, Ali Waheed resigned from his position after the party started working with the former President, Maumoon Abdul Gayoom.
Moosa told Sun Media today that it is evident from the recent tweets from the former MDP Chairperson.
In a tweet sent out today, Ali Waheed said that giving 50 percent to the opposition coalition and 50 percent for the government will be different from giving 100 percent for the people.
He said that both sides have 50 percent and anyone who says anything about it will be blamed.
The target of his comments are unclear from the tweets.
Ali Waheed resigned from his position as the MDP Chairperson on 28 November 2016. A coalition agreement between the former presidents, Nasheed and Maumoon was signed on 24 March 2017.
When he resigned, Ali Waheed said that his actions were based on the state of the party and the country to do what is best for the community and to give the position to someone in the country.
Moosa responded to one of Ali Waheed’s tweets asking if he is being hesitant to mention President Maumoon by name.
