The Police of Rajshahi, Bangladeshi, has said that the family of Maldivian student and model, Raudha Athif, who was found dead in Bangladesh, has refused to do a postmortem and request that the body be handed over to the family.
The Daily Star news reports that the victim’s mother has refused to do a postmortem and handover the body according to the Deputy Commissioner of the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police, Amir Zafar. Rajshahi police sought permission from the police headquarters in Dhaka in this regard.
“If all important family members including her parents want her body without autopsy, we can think about it,” Zafar said.
Police, however, have doubts as to whether the “inspiring” girl who had once been featured as a model on the cover of Vouge India magazine, October 2016 issue, could commit suicide, added the city's chief police official of east zone.
The 20-year-old studying MBBS at the Islami Bank Medical College was found dead two days ago in her dormitory room.
Although she was found dead on Wednesday, the Dormitory In-charge, Dr. Laila Akhthar said that she had dinner the night before.
Dhaka Tribune reported on Wednesday that the Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police, Shafikul Islam saying that they are not ruling out suicide. Commissioner Shafikul also said strangulation marks were found around her neck.
Maldives Ambassador to Bangladesh Aishath Shann Shakir and the victim's mother, meanwhile, visited the private medical college where Athif had been studying in the second year for her MBBS degree. They also talked to her friends, college authorities and police.
A lot of the victim’s friends are in shock and are refusing to talk to the media according to the Daily Star.
