The Japanese government has provided a grant of MVR 34.1 million to aid in increasing efficiency of Maldives Police Service.
The agreement for the assistance was signed in a function held at Ministry of Foreign Affairs this Thursday by Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives, Dr. Mohamed Asim and Japanese Ambassador to Maldives, Kazumi Endo.
Japanese embassy reports the assistance is to strengthen and increase efficiency of Maldives Police Service.
It said the assistance includes cars and high seafaring speedboats from Japan.
The assistance is part of the effort to increase preparedness of law enforcement agencies in dealing with acts of terrorism.
Ambassador Kazumi Endo expressed hope the assistance will improve security and ensure economic and social protection.
Maldives and Japan will be marking 50 years of diplomatic ties this year.
