Leader of the MDP Parliamentary Group, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih (Ibu) has said that the opposition will win the no-confidence motion against the Speaker of Parliament, Abdulla Maseeh next time even if the voting is by raising their feet.
The government coalition won the no-confidence vote taken on Monday via roll-call asking for their vote from each member individually with the support of 48 members. The vote was taken after 13 opposition members were named and dismissed from the floor. After the Police came in and removed some of the members, the opposition MP’s left the floor saying that the vote cannot be taken via roll-call.
Talking to the press among the people gathered near the Republic Square’s MMA area when the JP Leader Qasim Ibrahim was summoned to the Police, Ibu said that the result will be “very clear” in the next vote against the Speaker of the Parliament, Maseeh.
He said that the opposition were confident to win the vote last Monday as well but it was unsuccessful due to the actions of the law enforcement officers that entered the Parliament floor. Ibu said that the people do not believe the result of the vote that day.
Ibu said that there is nothing about the current regime that makes the opposition hesitatn and all opposition members are openly out against the government.
Regarding the summoning of opposition leaders to the Police, the Leader of the MDP Parliamentary Group said that no matter where they are summoned, they would answer with conviction. And summoning the opposition leaders to state institutes will stop put an end to opposition activities.
