Death toll from H1N1 outbreak rises to 6

The death toll from the current H1N1 influenza outbreak in the country has risen to six people, as Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital reports an 80-year-old man who was brought in from R. Ungoofaaru passed away last Thursday night.

IGMH reports the man was transported to the hospital for treatment as he was suffering from fractured bones, and that it had been only after the hospital received results of his blood tests on Sunday that they found out he had also been infected with the virus.

A 29-year-old H1N1-positive pregnant woman who was being treated at the Intensive Care Unit of IGMH also passed last Thursday.

Statistics released by Health Protection Agency this Monday shows 546 people have been tested for the virus so far, out of whom 199 people have tested positive.

35 people are currently admitted to hospitals and receiving treatment for the virus while 12 people infected with the virus have been treated and released from hospitals over the last 48 hours.

Statistics show 1,351 people from atolls and Male’ City received treatment for symptoms of the flu last Sunday alone.
