The accounts of Yacht Tours, which belongs to the former MP for the Kaadhidhoo constituency, Abdulla Jabir, has been frozen.
Talking to Sun Media from abroad, Jabir said that the Yacht Tours accounts were frozen in relation to the rent and tax of Haa Alifu Alidhoo and Haa Alifu Beenafushi.
But he said that there is no tax that needs to be paid to the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA).
Jabir said that the case is at court and the accounts cannot be frozen as such while the case is ongoing. And he said that the fines of those islands would be settled once a decision has been made in the court stage.
He said that the accounts were frozen once he started working against the government but freezing the accounts would not stop him.
Last December, the Civil Court ruled that the government reclaimed Haa Alifu Beenafushi and the Kandaali sandbank nearby legitimately from the Yacht Tours to which they were leased by the Tourism Ministry to develop a tourist resort.
