Maldivian escapes from Sri Lankan immigration detention center

A Maldivian man arrested for violating the immigration laws of Sri Lanka has escaped from the detention center.

Sri Lanka’s Daily Mirror news reports that the man escaped from Mirihana Detention Centre on Monday night along with Two Nigerians and a Turkish man. It is a facility run by the Department of Immigration and Emigration of Sri Lanka.

Daily Mirror reports that all four men were arrested for violating the immigration laws of the country and the escape is being investigated by the Police.

There are close to 12,000 Maldivians living in Sri Lanka for different purposes. And a number of Maldivians travel to Sri Lanka everyday.
