A fire broke out in a house in Maradhoo, Addu City in the early morning hours resulting in extensive damage.
The incident took place at approximately 1 am, this Wednesday.
Maldives National Defense Force reports the fire originated from inside the kitchen of Abuhary Manzil, located near Irushaadiyaa School.
MNDF reports the fire was put out by firefighters from Hithadhoo Fire station.
Deputy Mayor of Addu City, Abdulla Muththalib reports the fire caused extensive damage to the kitchen and adjoining areas of the house.
“The house has a wood-burning stove kitchen. There were a lot of firewood for cooking around the kitchen. The fire spread rapidly in this dry weather,” said Muththalib.
He said the fire damaged a large part of the house, and caused damage to neighboring houses – Aabaadhee Manzil and Welcome Villa.
Muththalib said the monetary value of the damage was large, and that the council was assessing the damage.
“We are making reports. We will assist them in any way we can,” said the Deputy Mayor.
