Broadcasting Commission condemns injuries inflicted on two journalists at last night

Maldives Broadcasting Commission (MBC) has condemned the injuries inflicted on journalists of Sun Media Group and Raajje TV at MDP’s ‘direct action’ protest last night.

A statement by MBC states that complaints had been received that Raajje TV journalists had been injured by the Police at the protest last night, as well as on 9 July.

The statement described the attack on the journalist of Sun FM as a cowardly attempt to impede media freedom.

MBC urged to allow media personnel to operate freely, and advised Security Forces not to obstruct the media.

They also stressed that the freedom of media guaranteed by the Constitution should not be misused for political gains.

Of late, journalists covering the protests have been victims of injuries inflicted by protesters and Security Forces. In addition to the journalists of Raajje TV and Sun Media Group, a Police Media cameraman was also injured last night.
