The newly-built Police Station in N. Holhudhoo has been set on fire.
A Police Media Official said that the incident was reported at around 2:45 last night, and that it is believed to be an arson attack.
“Equipment inside the building, such as the furniture, three bicycles and a motorcycle are burnt beyond use. The building is completely burnt,” the Police Media Official said.
He said that a Police team currently on the island to investigate another case has commenced investigation into this incident as well.
Holhudhoo Council President Abdul Azeez Hussain said that information of the fire was received at around 2:30, and that the fire was put out at around 6:00 this morning with the assistance of island citizens and MNDF personnel at Madivaru.
“The building belongs to the citizens of the island. It was equipped with furniture and all the necessary tools. Even beds had been provided. The fire has destroyed everything,” Abdul Azeez said.
A government vehicle near Usfasgandu in Male’ was also put on fire last night.
Several Police Stations in islands were burnt during the unrest on 8 February as well.
