Police reports no arrests have been made yet pertaining the chemical attack on an elderly man in R. Dhuvaafaru on Tuesday.
The chemical attack was directed at Ibrahim Mohamed, 71, from Neelamge in R. Dhuvaafaru as he headed to the mosque for dawn prayer on Tuesday.
He was transported to Male’ City on Tuesday afternoon, and is now being treated for the chemical burns on his face in Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital.
Police media official reported to “Sun” that the case was under investigation by the police, but that no arrests have been made yet.
A family member who spoke to “Sun” said the chemical had caused burns to Ibrahim Mohamed’s face and some of it had gone into his right-eye.
“He could open either of his eyes when he was taken to IGMH yesterday. But he’s able to open his left eye now. The damage to his right eye will be found out once the bandage is removed,” said the family member.
A woman was attacked with acid in a similar attack in in Lh. Lhaimagu in December, 2016. Two people were arrested by the police in the case.
