Elderly man attacked with acid in Dhuvaafaru

An elderly man has been attacked with acid which was thrown on his face by unknown assailants in R. Dhuvaafaru.

The man, Ibrahim Mohamed, 71, from Neelamge in Dhuvaafaru has been transported to Male’ City for treatment.

Dhuvaafaru Council reports that Ibrahim Mohamed was attacked with acid at approximately 5:30 am this Tuesday as he headed to the mosque for dawn prayer.

The chemical burns on his face were treated at Dhuvaafaru health center before he was transferred to the regional hospital in R. Ungoofaaru.

Information officer at the regional hospital, Hassan Fazeel reported that Ibrahim Mohamed had complained one of his eyes had gone blind due to the attack.

He was put on a flight to Male’ City at 12:20 pm.

“Chemical was thrown on his face. It’s unclear what type of chemical it was,” said Fazeel.

The attack is under investigation by the police, but no arrests have been made yet.

“Sun” has been informed that Ibrahim Mohamed lives in Dhuvaafaru with his family; a wife, two daughters and four sons.

A former fisherman, he now works in the funeral business.

A woman was attacked with acid in a similar attack in in Lh. Lhaimagu in December, 2016.
