Another fire has been started at the “Dhandimagu Kulhi” (swamp) in Fuvahmulah City.
Muneer, in charge of the Fuvahmulah Council, told Sun Media that the fire was said after sunset today and the person or group responsible remains unknown.
He said that the arson attack to the swamp has affects some farms on the island damaging plants due to the heat.
The swamp was set on fire three days ago as well. The fire set today was extinguished by the efforts from the MNDF Fire and Rescue Service and the Maldives Police Service.
Regarding the fire three days ago, the President of the Fuvahmulah Dhandimagu Council, Hussain Fahmee told Sun Media that it was something the people do when the swamp dries.
Fuvahmulah is a large island with a lot of unused land.
