Moosa: Will not work with MDP until Nasheed steps down

Hulhu Henveyru MP, Reeko Moosa Manik has declared he wasn’t willing to work with his former party -Maldivian Democratic Party – until former Maldivian President Mohamed Nasheed steps down from his involvement in the party.

MP Reeko Moosa made the statement in his interview on the SunTV show “Siyaasee Oivaru” last Sunday night.

In his interview, Moosa said Nasheed no longer had any international backing and was a political paraiah.

He alleged that Nasheed was attempting to come back to power with the backing of US government, but that the US, with its recent change in administration, was the same state as a “drain which can’t hold water.”

“For what reason would Trump come at us. That’s a blatant lie. He will not come. The country is saying it doesn’t want to be global policemen. So why would they come at this small nation?” said Moosa.

Moosa described the recent MDP conference with Nasheed in Colombo, Sri Lanka as a disguised MDP national council meeting.

He alleged that the main purpose of the conference was to ensure no one but Nasheed competes at MDP’s candidate for Presidential Election.

Moosa said that 80 percent of the council supported Nasheed, and that Nasheed was turning towards autocratic rule over the party.

“I will not stand with Nasheed. For sure I will never… Even if it be during a President Nasheed’s term in office, or within MDP. I will not work in politics with MDP until such time that President Nasheed steps down,” he said.

Moosa said that MDP was formed in 2008 for reform.

He said that reforms were now being implemented, no matter who came to power.

He also said that the opposition did not have the courage to compete President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.

Moosa said that the Maldives United Opposition had made no achievement to date.

He criticized Nasheed, saying self-exiling himself and having some former opposition politicians join MDP to create political turmoil within Maldives had done nothing but tarnish the name of MDP.
