Ministry of Finance and Treasury has announced that police officers will be given their salaries this Thursday in accordance with the previous structure, and that the recent increase in allowances would be implemented after review.
Some allowances to officers such as risk allowance was recently increased. And the salary sheet for month of January sent to Ministry of Finance was calculated based on the changes.
The issue led to a holdup within Ministry of Finance and Treasury, resulting in a delay in payments of salaries to police officers.
Minister of Finance and Treasury, Ahmed Munawwar reported to press that police officers will be receiving their previous salaries this Thursday.
He said that as per policy, salaries in accordance with the increase in allowance can only be issued after a review, during which the amount will be compared with allowances received by other civil servants who do similar work.
Minster Munawwar said that though the increase in salary of police officers was included in the State budget for 2017, it was stipulated that it would be implemented pending outcome of a review.
Police officers usually receive their salary two days prior to end of month. The delay resulted in Police Corporative Society issuing loans to officers to compensate for the inconvenience.
