More than 200 police officers have applied for the loans being issued by Police Corporative Society to compensate for the delay in salary payment for the month of January.
Police media official reported to “Sun” this Thursday that the loans will be issued until the officers are paid their salary.
He said that over 200 officers have applied for the loan so far, with the number expected to increase.
Police Corporative Society announced that each officer who applies will receive a maximum of MVR 10,000, repayable within two months.
The loans are interest-free.
Civil servants other than police officers have been paid their salaries.
The delay in salary payment of police officers is the result of a recent increase in allowances to officers.
Director of Ministry of Finance of Treasury, Ahmed Aiman said there was no issue with salary payment, and that everything was going according to procedure.
The salary structure of police officers was recently changed to increase certain allowances such as risk allowance. And the police salary sheet was sent to Ministry of Finance and Treasury with the changes.
Media reports the delay in salary payment was a result of the issue of salary increase being awarded to a certain group of civil servants amid ongoing efforts to compile a comprehensive salary structure for all civil servants.
