National bank, Bank of Maldives has launched its community campaign “Aharenge Bank” - designed to fund multiple initiatives in an extensive range of fields to support local communities.
“Aharenge Bank” campaign was launched in a function held at Champa Central Hotel last Tuesday night by Chairman of BML, Fareeha Shareef, and Managing Director and CEO of BML, Andrew Healy.
BML announced it will present a community-related initiative or event each day throughout the month of February.
The bank, through its “Aharenge Bank” campaign, invites proposals for projects that will have a lasting impact on the community.
The proposals need to be submitted via Facebook Live, and the best proposal with the most number of likes will be given MVR 200,000 by the bank.
Speaking during the function, Healy said the bank received 20,000 new customers in 2017 alone, pushing the total number of its customers over 270,000.
Healy announced the bank will be doubling its investment level to MVR 300 million in 2017, creating 150 new jobs in the process; with 10 new Corporate Social Responsibility projects throughout the country in charitable, educational, sports and environmental causes.
“BML has supported local communities with an investment of MVR 150 million over each of the past two years. And recently we announced we would double this investment level to MVR 300 million in 2017, creating 150 new jobs in the process,” said Healy.
He said the bank will also be establishing new branches, ATMs and business centers in 22 islands; creating 150 new jobs.

BML has a nationwide network of 31 branches across all 20 atolls, 78 ATMs, 4,000 Point of Sale merchants, 190 cash agents, 19 Self Service Banking Centres and 5 Dhoni Banking Units, as well as a full suite of Digital and Online Banking Services.
