Sun signs as media partner of Expatriate Friendship Club

Sun Media Group (SMG) has signed as the media partner of Expatriate Friendship Club – an NGO engaged in strengthening ties between Maldives and India through various social initiatives.

The agreement between SMG and Expatriate Friendship Club was signed in SunTV studio this Thursday afternoon by Secretary-General of Expatriate Friendship Club, D. Senthil Kumar and General Manager – Sales and Marketing of SMG, Minha Faiz (Minnu).

In his speech after signing the agreement, Kumar said it was the aim of the NGO to strengthen ties between Maldives and India on all fronts, and that signing SMG as the club’s media partner was a huge boost to their efforts.

“Our NGO is engaged in a lot of social activities. Its benefits will be reaped by the people of Maldives and India,” said Kumar.

Kumar noted that Expatriate Friendship Club was not a new NGO, but had previously been working as Indian Expatriate Friendship Association.

He said it was re-branded under the advisement of Ministry of Home Affairs of Maldives.

“We provide our assistance in arranging education trips. We have made trips will students from Dharumavantha School, Hiriya School, Thaajuddin School and Imaadhuddin School in the past,” said Kumar.

Kumar said that arranging educational trips for students was no easy feat. But that the NGO had managed to gain the trust of a number of parties.

“We are also collaborating with Indian Cultural Center to offer scholarships to the people of Maldives. Though the short-term courses aren’t familiar to that many people, we will be providing information on them,” he said.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, Minnu said activities by Expatriate Friendship Club will be shared through all SMG mediums; SunTV, SunFM and Sun Online.

“As part of this one-year agreement, the staff of Sun will be provided the opportunity to participate in their programs; including training programs and workshops,” said Minnu.

Expatriate Friendship Club is preparing to celebrate Thai Pongal – a four-day Tamil harvest festival – in Olympus on Friday night, January 27.
