Foreign Minister Dr. Mohamed Asim has said the the Maldives welcomes Chinese investments and the number of Chinese investments in the country are expected to increase in the future.
Speaking at the reception at Hotel Jen tonight to celebrate the Chinese New Year, Dr. Asim highlighted the close relations between the Maldives and China.
The Maldivian Foreign Minister said that the two countries are closer than ever before and highlighting the Chinese President’s visit to the Maldives and the two visits by the President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom to China in the last three years, he said that such visits displays the relations between the two countries.
The Minister said that the Maldives have welcomed a number of Chinese investments including the bridge project and the development of the Velana International Airport.
Addressing the function, Minister Dr. Asim conveyed warm greetings on behalf of the President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, and the People of Maldives to His Excellency President Xi Jinping and the friendly people of China on this auspicious occasion.
He also underscored that this year will be a historical year for the two countries as we mark the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
