Life sentence to man who smuggled narcotics into Addu in 2008

Criminal Court has sentenced Hassan Anwar from Havaas in Hithadhoo, Addu City of smuggling narcotics into the city back in 2008.

Anwar was accused of smuggling narcotics into Addu City on an Island Aviation flight from Male’ City to Gan International Airport which landed at 12:30 am on December 23, 2008.

He was apprehended as soon as he disembarked from the flight and taken to Gan Police Station.

The narcotics were found hidden inside a piece of clothing when police did a body check on him and checked through his belongings.

Analysis showed 5,293.17 grams of opiates inside the 10 rubber packets found inside the piece of clothing.

Anwar was sentenced based on the old Anti-Narcotics Act.
