Life imprisonment to man who smuggled heroin into Thinadhoo

Man who smuggled in narcotics into G. Dh. Thinadhoo has been sentenced to life imprisonment and fined MVR 100,000.

Shamaail Afeef from Roamaruge in G. Dh. Thinadhoo was given life imprisonment after he was found guilty of smuggling narcotics into Thinadhoo on board the boat “Havaru Boat” at 7:15 pm on April 1, 2014.

Criminal Court made its decision on January 17, ruling that Shamaail Afeef had got on the backseat of a motorcycle driven by someone who came on board the “Havaru Boat”. And that police had stopped him in front of the State Trading Organization (STO) warehouse on the island and did body checks, upon which narcotics was discovered inside Shamaail’s pockets.

The narcotics tested positive for heroin and weighed 8.0699 grams.

Shamaail has been ordered to pay the fine to Criminal Court within one month.
