Two men sentenced to ten years for smuggling a kilo of drugs

Two men who smuggled a kilo of drugs to the Maldives has been sentenced to ten years in prison along with a fine of MVR 5,000.

The verdict was passed against Safaa Ahmed (Gaafu Dhaalu Rathafandhoo) and Abdulla Shuaib (Malé).

Criminal Court passed the verdict on Sunday saying that witness testimonies prove that on 10 February 2015 around 1:03 p.m., a kilo gram of drugs were found when the two men were checked after they board off a flight that came from Bangalore, India.

The verdict orders the two men to settle the fine in a period of one month.
