The ten people on board the longline fishing boat “Marco Polo 2”, which was operating outside Maldivian territorial waters when it caught on fire, has been rescued at sea.
The fire on board the E-Fish Maldives Pvt. Ltd. Boat was reported to the MNDF last night around 9 p.m.
MNDF said that there were nine Indonesian nationals along with a Maldivian national on board the ship 43 miles out of Maldives according to the owners.
Media Officer of the MNDF, Captain Ibrahim Azim told Sun Media today that the Maldives Maritime Rescue Coordination has been notified of the rescue of the ten people who were found at sea.
Captain Azim said that they were rescued by an E-Fishing boat, “Spare-10” involved in the search and rescue.
The details on their condition and their transfer to the country is unclear at this time.
