Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure has made the decision to digitalize over 1 million 40-year-old housing documents managed by Land and Building Department.
Speaking during the function held at Huravee Building this Thursday morning to unveil initiatives to increase the efficiency of Land and Building Department, Minister of Housing and Infrastructure, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu commented that a lot of initiatives were underway to improve the quality and convenience of services provided to the people.
Minister Muizzu said that the digitalization of the hundreds of thousands of old housing documents was a major step towards that end.
He said that employees of Land and Building Department needed to put in a lot of time and effort into finding such documents when requested, slowing the speed in which services are delivered to the people.
“Due to these difficulties, we will be scanning all these documents and storing them in a system,” said Minister Muizzu.
He also noted that approval of blueprints – something which used to take months – can now be completed within three days, given that all documents are in order with the necessary stamps.
An electronic queueing system has been installed in Land and Building Department to increase convenience of customers.
