Ailing Spanish sailor to be transported to Male’

Dr. Abdul Samad Memorial Hospital in G. Dh. Thinadhoo reports that the Spanish sailor under treatment at the hospital is to be transported to Male’ City for further treatment.

The 41-year-old Spaniard – a crew member of the fishing boat “Alcrana” travelling from Thailand to Seychelles – was taken to Thinadhoo last Monday evening after he fell ill.

“Alcrana” was 307 nautical miles to the west of L. Maavah when it asked for assistance from the Maritime Rescue Coordination Center.

MNDF responded to the call for assistance and transported the man to Thinadhoo.

A crewmember of the boat has stayed begin to assist the ailing Spaniard as the rest of the crew continue its journey to Seychelles.

Public Relations Officer of Dr. Abdul Samad Memorial Hospital reported to “Sun” that the Spaniard wasn’t in critical condition, but was still having trouble breathing.

The officer reported that there was no physician available at the hospital, and that it had been decided the Spaniard would be transported to Male’ City for the best possible care.

He is due to be transported sometime this Tuesday.
