WAMCO requests plastics to be separated for waste collection

Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) has requested that the plastic bottles be separated when the Malé households prepares the waste for collection.

Speaking at a press conference held at the Environment Ministry today, the Managing Director of WAMCO, Ibrahim Fuad said that the company is doing a number of work to recycle and reduce burning waste.

And so he said that are recycling already at a large scale and are looking to recycle plastic as well. He said that the decision to recycle plastic bottles was made because they are a resource.

Fuad said that paper is being recycled now as well. And so that have shipped 26 tons of textbooks in November and the second shipment was sent yesterday which is 26.8 tons of textbooks.

He said that while paper is largely disposed in the dustbins of school classrooms, WAMCO is collecting those as well on Thursdays and gathered at Thilafushi for a monthly recycle.

The Managing Director of WAMCO further said that waste collection in Malé City would be fully functional serving all household would take about six months.

While the tricycle and compact vehicles needed for the collection are currently at the shipping stage, Fuad said that three landing craft is being built in India.
