A man who was in possession of some protected species of birds has been fined with MVR 111,500.
The birds were found at a house in Baa atoll Dhonfanu during an operation conducted by a team of the North Police Division of the Maldives Police Service.
Environment Protection Agency (EPA) said that the species of birds include Ruddy Turnstones, Golden Plovers and Owls. These birds are protected under the Law of Environment Protection of the Maldives.
EPA said that the owner of the birds was fined under Regulation R-9/2011 2-4 created under Article 4/93 of the Constitution after reviewing the Police report.
