Court issues guilty verdict against 2 RajjeTV journalists

Criminal Court has issued the guilty verdict against two RajjeTV journalists; Mohamed Wisam and Leevan Ali Nasir for obstructing a law-enforcement officer from performing his duty.

Judge Ahmed Shakeel issued the guilty verdict against Wisam and Leevan during the closed court hearing held at 2 pm, this Monday, December 19.

Judge Shakeel announced the sentencing hearing would be held on January 24, 2017.

The reason why a closed hearing was held is unclear at this point.

Wisam and Leevan were charged over an incident which took place on November 2, 2015, at approximately 7:45 pm during an operation by police and military for which the area surrounding Mafannu Stadium was closed off.

State prosecution claimed that Corporal Mohamed Shaheen had been trying to arrest an individual who refused to obey the order to clear out from near Islandhar Koshi II when he was grabbed and pulled back by Wisam.

Prosecution also claimed that Leevan had removed Corporal Shaheen’s hands from the individual he attempted to arrest.
