Thyroid tests inaugurated at Fuvahmulah Hospital

Gnaviyani Atoll Hospital in Fuvahmulah has installed a thyroid screening machine and started providing the service.

Manager of the hospital, Mohamed Faruzad told Sun Media that there are over 200 people getting treatment for thyroid and the people had to go out of the island for screening. But with the screening machine brought in last month is now operational and providing the service.

Faruzad said that a training program was held on 1 December 2016 to train the laboratory staff to use the machine. And the thyroid screening service was started on 4 December.

While thyroid screening has begun at the Gnaviyani Atoll Hospital, the hospital introduced thalassemia testing as well back in February.
