Ooredoo submarine cable installed up to Thinadhoo

Ooredoo Maldives has connected their nation-wide submarine cable, currently in the works, at the landing station at Gaafu Dhaalu Thinadhoo.

The nation-wide submarine cable project is a USD 25 million project that began on 8 December 2016. The cable connected at the landing station at Hithadhoo, Addu City on the day the project began.

Ooredoo Maldives began the project in an effort to provide high speed internet across the country after acquiring the ISP license. The submarine cable to be installed from north to south across the country would have landing stations at Hithadhoo, Thinadhoo, Kaafu Hulhumaalé, Meemu Kolhufushi, Baa Eydhafushi and Haa Dhaalu Kulhudhuffushi.

The telecommunication company said that the installation of their submarine cable would be complete in January 2016.

The project is being run by the Chinese company Huawei Technologies. E-Marine, the largest submarine cable solutions provider, is providing to the Chinese company on the project.
