A group of officials from the United Nations have met with the former Vice President Ahmed Adheeb Abdul Gafoor at the Maafushi Prison.
Sources say that two members of the Human Rights Council of the UN were at the meeting last Wednesday. The officials also met with Adheeb’s lawyer.
The details of the meetings are unclear at this time.
Former Vice President Adheeb is currently serving a 33-year prison sentence following three different convictions. The trials of two other charges against Adheeb are currently ongoing as well.
The UN delegation also met with the MP for South Galolhu constituency, Ahmed Mahloof, who is also serving time.
MP Mahloof was given a prison sentence following two counts of obstruction of Police duties.
