Trial in the murder of Ahmed Miruza from White House in N. Maalhendhoo has been concluded, with the verdict against the three suspects in pending.
An additional hearing was held by Criminal Court in Miruza’s murder trial this Sunday over the change in the judge presiding over the case.
The trial was previously presided over by former Chief Judge of Criminal Court, Judge Abdulla Mohamed (Abdulla Gaazee). The case has been taken over the current Chief Judge of Criminal Court, Judge Abdul Baaree Yoosuf.
Miruza was bludgeoned to death using a wooden rod on April 11, 2011 at approximately 5:45
pm.
State prosecution has charged three men with the murder. They are:
1. Abdulla Naseef from Xavier in Gn. Fuvahmulah
2. Mohamed Shifau from Fazeela Manzil in Vilimale’
3. Ali Rifshan from Bokaruge in G. Dh. Gadhdhoo
Naseef has been charged with murder, while Shifau and Rifshan have been charged as accomplices in the murder
Potential punishment for the three suspects was discussed during the hearing held this Sunday.
The hearing ended with Judge Baaree announcing that the sentencing hearing will be held soon.
