Defense attorney of lawmaker Ahmed Mahloof has confirmed the family’s claims Mahloof has been granted permission to travel abroad for medical care.
The defense attorney reported to “Sun” that Mahloof had been granted permission by the State to travel abroad to India for medical treatment of unspecified health issues facing Mahloof.
The attorney released no further information.
Maldives Correctional Service has made no official announcement yet.
Mahloof is serving a six-month prison sentence and a four-month prison sentence on two separate, but similar charges of obstruction of police officers from performing their duty.
Mahloof is a key opposition political activist, and the Spokesperson for Maldives United Opposition.
